Why are Toyota 1KZ-TE heads so crap? Its design combined with poor R&D that makes toyota diesel heads crack. Worst one is the 3c-t engine fitted to enemas-lucidas they all crap out no matter what you try and do to prevent it. Studio1, May 2, 10:39pm. X3 Copy The 1KZ-TE engine (and head) is as reliable and well made as any other good Toyota engine. There's an issue with 2L-T heads.
The Toyota KZ is one of Toyota's small passenger diesel engines.
1KZ-T[edit]
The 1KZ-T is an early version of the KZ series engine and used a fully mechanical injector pump, 3.0 L (2,982 cc), 4 cylinders, SOHC, 2 valve per cylinder turbo diesel engine. Maximum output is 125 hp (93 kW; 127 PS) at 3600 rpm and maximum torque is 287 N⋅m (212 lb⋅ft) at 2000 rpm.
Applications:
- Land Cruiser Prado KZJ71W, KZJ78W.
- Toyota 4Runner KZN130L
1KZ-TE[edit]
The 1KZ-TE is a 3.0 L (2,982 cc), 4 cylinder, SOHC, 2 valves per cylinder turbodiesel engine with indirect injection. Bore and stroke is 96 mm × 103 mm (3.78 in × 4.06 in), with a compression ratio of 21.2:1. Maximum output is 130 hp (97 kW; 132 PS) at 3600 rpm with maximum torque of 287 N⋅m (212 lb⋅ft) at 2000 rpm. Redline is 4400 rpm. First produced in 1993, it is still used in new model vehicles today[citation needed]. The 1KZ-TE also adopts the electronically controlled fuel injection, ETCS-i (Electronic throttle control System - intelligent) technology which is similar in basic construction to a modern gasoline injector, although using considerably higher injection pressures, it is an indirect injection engine which gives it a significant efficiency and fuel consumption penalty. It was replaced in most markets with the 1KD-FTV engine which uses common raildirect injection.
Used in KZJ71W, KZJ78W, KZN160 and KZN165R (Australian & South African delivered model).
The intercooler equipped version of the engine increases the output of the engine 145 hp (108 kW; 147 PS) [Aust. 130 hp (97 kW; 132 PS)] at 3600 rpm and maximum torque of 343 N⋅m (253 lb⋅ft) at 2000 rpm.
Applications:
- Land Cruiser Prado KZJ90, KZJ95, KZJ120L, KZJ120R[1]
- Hilux Surf KZN130, KZN185
- Hilux KZN165
